Most pet owners will agree that there are dozens of wonderful and amusing stories we can tell about our pets. One of our favorite Callie stories relates to the years she was our son's school day alarm clock.

Every morning Callie would come into our bedroom to wake us up to take her out. When she returned inside, she would wait for her command to, "Go wake Lee!" She'd run down the hall at full speed into our son's room and jump on his bed with perfect precision so that all 75 pounds of her straddled our sleeping son. Lee would swat her off him, but Calliie had her orders and kept jumping back on the bed until Lee finally sat up and got out of bed.

Our son no longer lives at home and Callie can no longer jump up on the bed, but at 14 years old, she is still bringing as much joy into our lives as she did when she was younger.

Whether strolling along the surf in South Beach, sailing off Westport, Ct or sniffing around New York's Central Park, Coconut alway seems to have a smile on her face. But this teenager has also gone through some tough times. If a cat is supposed to have nine lives then Coconut has gone beyond any feline. She has survived being runover by a car and several major medical conditions. Who says that sweet little things can't also be extremely tough.
